1-Day Fall Protection Authorized Person
(Printable version)

Who is this class for?
This class is geared to training for authorized persons, who are the end-users of the fall protection equipment, and teaches the proper methods for utilizing fall protection equipment at heights.

What are the advantages of attending a fall protection class if I already use fall protection equipment?
This class contains all the information necessary to properly use, inspect, and maintain fall protection equipment on the jobsite. Also, ANSI requires that the users of fall protection equipment have documented training adequate to qualify them as an authorized user of such equipment.

What does the 1-day class entail?
At the beginning of the class we hand out fall protection manuals. A PowerPoint presentation covers the following information:
  • We discuss all stages of the fall protection hierarchy
  • We spend a great deal of time covering the four parts of a fall arrest system
  • Fall protection equipment inspection
  • Proper care and maintenance of fall protection equipment
  • The proper donning of the harness, proper usage of the equipment; and when and where the equipment is needed
We also have hands-on exercises throughout the class, along with a fall protection trailer demonstration to show how the amount of arresting force is generated, utilizing various types of lanyards. The fall protection trailer is also used to lift students in a harness and give them a first hand look at the importance of properly fitting/sizing the full body harness and the pressures that can be felt in suspension. Students must demonstrate the proper method to fit/don a harness, make proper connections, and how to make proper tie-off connections. At the end of the class, we will issue a test to ensure the information is retained. Shortly after the conclusion of the class, we will issue cards of completion.

What happens if a person is using fall protection equipment outside of its limitations?
It will not work properly! The myth is, "If I am wearing the gear, I must be protected." Not true. You must wear the gear, and it must be hooked to an anchor; not hooked to just anything you can find, any which way you want, but to a suitable anchor with the system tied off within the limitations of the equipment. Also, the equipment must be inspected prior to use to ensure the integrity of all components. Each employee is responsible for inspecting his equipment before using it.

Where can Safety Connection perform the class?
Anywhere you would like. We can perform the class at your location, or ours, in Baton Rouge, LA.

What will be needed if we come to your location?
All we need is a classroom, table, a screen to apply the PowerPoint presentation, and people.
